Bio

Geoff is a Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Epidemiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Medical Biophysics and Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto (Canada) and at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His expertise is in pharmacogenomics, Cancer pharmacoepidemiology, and translational medicine. Geoff spent a number of years completing his Bachelor's, Medical, and Masters in Epidemiology degrees in Toronto., before taking a decade-long sojourn to Harvard Medical School/Harvard School of Public Health, where he trained as a medical oncologist, molecular epidemiologist, and became Assistant Professor. He returned to Toronto as the Alan B. Brown Chair in Molecular Genomics in 2006. Over the past decade, he has either organized or taught the ICPE Pharmacogenomics and Oncology Courses from their inceptions, and he promotes the accompanying SIGs. In the past few years, he has focused on developing new observational study methods for rare cancer molecular alterations, using real-world data. He leads multiple Canadian national efforts including: a pilot CPHIN (Canadian Personalized Healthcare Innovation Network; www.CPHIN.ca) study; CARMA BROS (Canadian Rare Molecular Alteration Basket-umbrella Real-world Observational Study); and multiple industry-academic partnerships for Canadian Health Technology Assessments. In addition to this research, he has a wet lab developing animal and organoid models of molecular resistance mechanisms of rare alterations in lung cancer. He is also principal investigator of Lung-CALIBRE (Lung Cancer And Liquid biopsy, Informatics, Breathomics, Radiomics for Early detection), which focuses on multi-modal and innovative methods for detecting lung cancer. His research program is described at www.uhncombiel.com/geoffreyliulab. He co-leads a multi-disciplinary multi-level training program COMBIEL (Cancer Outcomes, Medicine, Biostatistics, Informatics, Epidemiology and Laboratory; www.uhncombiel.com).
