Bio

Hannelie Meyer is a pharmacist by profession and Professor in the Division of Public Health Pharmacy and Management at the School of Pharmacy, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU). She specialises in vaccine safety and vaccination as an important pillar of antimicrobial stewardship, and rational medicine use within the field of public health pharmacy. Her research aims to strengthen healthcare services and improve public health, and contribute towards reaching the sustainable development goal of good health and well-being. Hannelie is a scientific advisor on pharmacovigilance, cold chain management and logistics for the South African Vaccination and Immunisation Centre (SAVIC) at SMU. As a member of SAVIC she participated in the development of a Higher Certificate (Vaccinology) qualification (offered from 2019) and vaccinology short courses for in-service vaccinators. She is the chairperson of the National Immunisation Safety Expert Committee, a ministerial advisory committee, and in this capacity, serves on the National Advisory Group on Immunisation.
